Local Food!

Good Morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub! It’s time to order your local food.

Due to the unusually cold weather we’ve been having, Green Door Gourmet won’t have any kale this week. It may take a couple of weeks for it to grow back to its beautiful self, but as soon as it does it will be back on the hub.

We’re open till noon today for orders. Have a great day and stay warm!

Clear things Up

Good Morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub.
I need to clear up a couple of things about Green Door Gourmet. It is a working farm called Hidden Valley Farm owned and operated by Sylvia Ganier. They have a farm store on the premises called the Green Door Gourmet. They practice organic and biodynamic techniques in growing all of their produce. Brandon Tavalin is the farm manager and his wife, Amy, works for the TN Dept. of Ag. I think I’ve got my information straight now. It’s a beautiful farm in West Nashville that is open for tours. We should schedule a tour some time and all go together.
They have some awesome produce at great prices, so don’t miss out.

We’re open till noon for orders.

New Items!

Good morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub.

We want to welcome a new grower this week- Green Door Gourmet. Brandon and Amy Tavalin operate Green Door Gourmet out of West Nashville and sell to many restaurants and also sell their certified organic produce thru several farmers markets. We are very happy to have them on board! This week they have:
Kale- green curly and red russian

Cabbage- green and green savoy

Onions- bunching

So don’t miss out on their delicious produce!

We also have several other items this week including our wonderful eggs, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, turnips, and so much more. Check out the whole list here:

I’m still working on getting the local milk nailed down. I should know something this week. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Time to Order Local Food!

Good Morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub. We’re open for orders today until noon, and we still have apples and cider available.

We also have garlic, turnips, peppers, some greens, eggs, and even some tomatoes on the market.

We’re working with Hatcher Dairy to work out a stable supply of milk. They are a smaller, family owned dairy (which is why I like them), and they have quite a bit of business as it is. So they are not sure they will be able to supply us consistently. I’m waiting to hear what the family decides on our behalf.

Thank you for your orders and supporting your local farmers!

Open for Orders

Good Frosty Morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub. It’s a great day to buy local, and now we have local milk available for your customers and favorite recipes.

We still have apples and cider this week! This was a good season for apples, I hope it’s just as good next year (I mean this year).

We have farm fresh eggs, fresh breads, turnips, green peppers, tomatoes, garlic and sweet potatoes for sale this week, in addition to herbs, sprouts and other things.

Due to the cold weather, I’m not sure if we will have the kale, collards and cabbage available. If you would like some, go ahead and order it and I’ll get back with you on it.

Thank you and have a great day!

Local Milk!

We now carry local milk- both whole and chocolate- from a family owned dairy in College Grove, TN.

The cows are rotationally grazed on grass and are NOT given any rBST hormone. They are responsibly raised and the entire process of milk production happens right there on the farm- from milking to bottling to shipping to stores.

Read more about their farm on their website:

hatcherfamilydairy.com

and/or check out their grower page on the rootedhere website:

Fresh, hormone free local milk that is NOT homogenized so you can enjoy the cream on top has a delicious taste you cannot get from conventional milk. Order yours this week!

Open this week for Orders

Good Morning Everyone,
The South Cumberland Food Hub is open for orders on our regular schedule this week.

This may be the last week for apples, so you may want to stock up on your favorites. Apples keep well at 32 degrees and high humidity. And the cider freezes well.

Hope you all have a Blessed New Year this 2014, and stay safe.
